🌍 Mission Team

Living out Christ’s love through service, compassion, and community.

Our Mission Team is one of the most active and outward-focused ministries in the church. They coordinate local, national, and international outreach - providing practical help, building relationships, supporting organizations that serve vulnerable populations, and creating opportunities for our congregation to love our neighbors in meaningful ways.

Below is an overview of what the Mission Team does throughout the year.

Annual & Ongoing Mission Projects

🛍️ Rummage Sale

Mission Valley UMC's Community Rummage Sale is Saturday, June 13, from 9am-1pm. Come find a treasure and support local cancer ministries, with proceeds benefiting Cancer Support Community Montana–Missoula and Cheerful Heart of Polson.

🎪 Summer Community Carnival

The Mission Team hosts a community carnival filled with games, activities, and connection. It’s a fun, welcoming way to get to know Mission Valley UMC and your neighbors. This summer, our carnival is Thursday, June 25, 5:30-7:30pm. 

📚 Supporting Teachers in Seven Local School Districts

At the start of each new school year, the Mission Team provides teacher-snack support for seven school districts. These snacks are delivered as teachers set up their classrooms - our way of saying, “We see you. We appreciate you.”

🙏 Monthly Prayer for Faculty & Staff

Once a month on a Wednesday morning, the Mission Team gathers at St. Ignatius Schools to pray for teachers, administrators, staff, and students. This ministry supports the school community spiritually and relationally.

🕊️ International Day of Peace Gathering

(September 21)
This event invites the community into reflection, creativity, and unity. Each year, our church hosts a community celebration of peace including activities such as:

  • Tai chi

  • Harp music

  • Mosaic coloring

  • Origami

🪣 Noisy Bucket Offerings (September–November)

During these months, we collect coins in metal buckets - making it a “noisy offering” that supports different nonprofits each month.

2025 organizations include:

  • September — Gas Cards for the church office to distribute to individuals and families in need.

  • October — UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), providing disaster response and humanitarian aid.

  • November — CanvasBack Ministries, supporting medical mission work in Micronesia, where each donated dollar becomes four dollars worth of medical services.

🎄 Christmas Eve Special Offering

Each Christmas Eve, a special offering supports a mission partner chosen by the Mission Team.
This year’s offering supports Jake’s Farm in Ronan, MT, a residential community for adults with autism. Jake’s Farm provides a safe, supportive environment where residents can thrive.

✨ And More Throughout the Year

The Mission Team also coordinates spontaneous and seasonal service projects as needs arise. From food assistance to community partnerships to mission education, this ministry is always seeking new opportunities to serve.
